In a significant development, a team from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out searches at the residence of West Bengal minister Chandranath Sinha in Bolpur, Birbhum district, regarding its investigation into an alleged school recruitment scam. The ED team, accompanied by a large contingent of central forces, initiated the search at Sinha's residence around 9:15 am. Sinha, who serves as the Minister of MSME and Textiles in the Mamata Banerjee government, was not present at his residence during the search, as he was at his ancestral house in Murarai, approximately 90 km away.
An ED official stated, "The search is in connection with the investigation of the alleged irregularities in the school recruitment scam. The minister is not present at his residence; we are talking to his family." Sinha had previously been summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in relation to cases involving cattle and coal smuggling.
Simultaneously, the ED conducted raids at the residences of several businessmen in various parts of Kolkata, including Lake Town, Chetla, and Ballygunge, as part of the investigation into the alleged recruitment scam. These businessmen were suspected of facilitating illegal fund transfers from India to other countries. Officials are currently examining documents and interrogating individuals involved in these raids.
